Isle of Skye

A good night’s sleep, 9 1/2 hours – and another BIG breaky (will have to cancel the bacon and eggs for tomorrow). The owner of the hostel then offered us her book of Skye bridge pre-paid toll tickets. We gratefully accepted – they saved us £7 on the toll return. It is a controversial toll (aren’t they always) and one of the parties in the election campaign for the new Scottish parliament, to be elected in a month’s time, after 300 years is promising to abolish the toll.

We headed north and circumnavigated the island sky in an anticlockwise direction. We found a wonderful and deserted beach (except for the odd unkempt sheep) complete with ruins, which we climbed down the steep almost cliff face too and took numerous photos of. Our next stop was another cliff face where we could see kilt rock. As the name suggests it looks vaguely like a kilt. Also beside the viewpoint, There was a smallish waterfall falling around 50 m down to the water below. Spectacular!
Unfortunately, the drizzle sitting and the views of the coast in the mountains would be largely obscured.

We had lunch and a small peninsula just out of sight of Dunvegan castle – clan of McLeods. It was beautiful but cold and just before we ate a Scottish Man-all killed up, including And socks, plus the 3 Scottish terriers wandering down the track. Later after another wonderful meal cooked with the faithful Trangia, down drove the Scottish man in a Range Rover and he congratulated us on being the first picnickers of the season.

Dunvegan Castle Looked great and from what Josie and Karla said, is worth a look, however after a castle a day this trip, we thought we would Hold the phone on this one.
Ohh, Before I forget (which I obviously had) before lunch we stopped at the Croft Museum right at the top of the sky at the intersection of the A855 south of Balgown and the road joining from Staffin. It was good to show the history of the Highland crofters (farmers) what a struggle they had.
Returning to our B&B we were given scones date loaf and shortbread to enjoy with a cup of tea. We took an hour stroll along the coast north which was pleasant and followed that with curry and rice and sleep.
