January 10 – 13 2015.
I am a bit slow at getting this one out, but better late than never.
Japan – first stop Tokyo for 4 nights.
Team icebreaker (not planned!) set off from Brisbane to meet the Sutherlands in Tokyo. A massive concrete jungle with Mt Fuji in the background.
In Yoyogi Park we found amazing ice sculptures, said our prayers in Meiji Shrine and of course there were a few vending machines!
Ramen for lunch and a visit to Shibuya Crossing rumoured to be the world’s busiest, this intersection in front of Shibuya Station is famously known as ‘The Scramble’. It’s an awesome spectacle of giant video screens and neon, guaranteed to give you a ‘Wow – I’m in Tokyo!’ feeling.
Dinner and Sapporo
The next day saw the boys go running around the imperial palace
The Girls and the Kids went to the Sunshine 60 building to take the Vista of the concrete jungle that is Tokyo – amazing!
We also visited the cat petting centre – a bit weird, but cute cats.
After a late night, we woke the next morning and headed to the Tsukiji fish market for a tour. Fruit, vegetables, flowers and meat are also sold here, but it’s seafood – around 2000 tonnes of it traded daily – that Tsukiji is most famous for.
Our tour was followed by the most beautiful sushi lunch. So fresh!
Post lunch we headed to the Sky Tree for more views over Tokyo. Tokyo Sky Tree opened in May 2012 as the world’s tallest ‘free-standing tower’ at 634m. There are two observation decks, at 350m and 450m and at peak visibility you can apparently see up to 100km away, all the way to Mt Fuji. we luckily had a very clear day so the view was spectactular.
After dinner we headed back to our hotel for our last nights sleep in Tokyo
