Aberdeen via St Andrews and Balmoral

We set the alarm and woke to ring Ben and Julie in Kingaroy, but they had already left. So it was back to bed for an hour before rising again and walking into town to pick up his car. A little Fiat. We came back had breakfast then headed off north ringing Ben and Julie on the way. (Now Mr and Mrs Whitehead) We headed up to St Andrews, where we saw a St Andrews castle that was falling to pieces and not much left. Under the castle the enemy was digging a mine to attack from underneath. Those in the Castle started to come to mine and on the third attempt, they got it right and stopped the attack. Saint Andrews Cathedral was in a fairly similar state to the castle. We went to Rules Tower which was a tower that forms part of another big Cathedral on the same side. From there we went to look at the golf course, which St Andrews is famous for, but we couldn’t see much. We then drove for about an hour and stopped at a cute little place for lunch. We continued on to Aberdeen, past Balmoral castle. It was closed, we missed opening time by one week. We arrived in Aberdeen at about 6 pm. It was as if our eyesight has turned black and white and all we could see were different shades of grey with the occasional splotches of colour provided by red light. Everything is granite here and they build all the buildings in granite, hence the lack of colour.
For dinner, we went to a fish and chip shop. ‘The best in Britain’ apparently. Famous for fish, chips and mushy peas. It was delicious. Then onto ‘Goldies’ a pub down the road. We have a couple of beers and met some New Zealanders. The publican was a really nice fellow and he turned the cricket on for us. We skipped home at about 9 pm.
