Day 21 Mareeba to Airlie Beach 700kms 8hrs 22mins driving time<\/h2>\n

The Suthos car problems were getting worse last night and after the RACQ visited this morning the results were\u00a0not good.<\/p>\n

Luckily the car stopped in the first town we have been for a couple of weeks with a Toyota dealership!<\/p>\n

As we were now in more populated areas the other Chilli Caperz went on to Airlie Beach, hoping Hot Stuff 2 would be able to play catch up.<\/p>\n

The Atherton Tablelands are beautiful and such a stark contrast to the road we were on just 24hrs before.<\/p>\n

Just after Innisfail we hit 5000kms and 96hr sitting in the car<\/p>\n

Then good news from the Suthos. \u00a0Car will be fixed this morning and they will be on the road!!!!<\/p>\n

Much of the road today has been travelled before and we kept ourselves away playing name the road kill!!!<\/p>\n

Day 22 Airlie Beach to Tannum Sands 621 kms \u00a07 hrs driving time<\/h2>\n

The Sutherlands arrived in at 12:50am after their long night drive and at 9:30am we all set off together for Tannum Sands.<\/p>\n

The Jardines were also having trouble starting their car and were concerned that the starter motor in their Prado was dying just like the Sutherlands had 2 days before.<\/p>\n

The Jardines need a new starter motor but no part in Rockhampton so yet again the decision was made to push on to our destination.<\/p>\n

After quick showers we walked to the Tannum Sands surf club for our last nights dinner and a birthday celebration for Hano.\u00a0\"DSC05042\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Day 23 Tannum Sands to Home \u00a0514kms<\/h2>\n

Breakfast at McDonalds \u00a0( first one for the trip) and we started on our way home<\/p>\n

MARK fishing at Weipa, Overland Telegraph Track, Snorkelling with kids on the reef<\/p>\n

KATE Getting bogged in dry Laura River and meeting the 3 year old Rodeo girl in Rockhampton with the surname Hansen<\/p>\n

NAT afternoon drinks at Punsand bay \u00a0and the hilarious banter of the Chilli Caperz on theCB \u00a0radio<\/p>\n

HEART POUNDING MOMENTS<\/p>\n

unexpected creek crossing at Eliot Falls<\/p>\n

hitting large pothole at Speed and going airborne<\/p>\n

Exiting log bridge and getting caught on 3 wheels with kids running around<\/p>\n

stuck in sand without anyone else around<\/p>\n

walking through possibly croc infested water to attach snatch strap to Suthos car in favorite boardies<\/p>\n

crossing Nolans knowing the drunk peanut gallery had been digging out the deep holes<\/p>\n

CAUTIONARY TALES<\/p>\n

– do not take your favorite board shorts<\/p>\n

– secure your trailer<\/p>\n

– bring toilet paper<\/p>\n

– bring lots of electrical tape and cable ties<\/p>\n

– watch out for hot meat pies<\/p>\n

– make sure you have an Allen key to tighten roof racks<\/p>\n

– don’t clean your car before you go<\/p>\n

– check used by dates on all food north of cooktown<\/p>\n

– make sure you know where all recovery points are on your fellow travelers vehicles<\/p>\n

– bring erection gloves for setting up camper trailer<\/p>\n

– bring loads of toilet paper<\/p>\n

– bring clothes you are prepared to throw out at the end<\/p>\n

– bring many $1 coins<\/p>\n

– bring vacuum packed clothes for the trip home<\/p>\n

We are now 2hrs from Brisbane \u00a0 By the end it will have been 6650kms \u00a0and 118hrs in the car all in 3 weeks.<\/p>\n
