Our flight back to Quito was more eventful that i wanted it to be as Abigail had picked up a bug on the boat and as we hit a bit of turbulence she had a big vomit on the plane. Luckily mum was at the ready and caught the lot in the bag, although I can not say it is the most pleasant experience flying along holding a bag of vomit!!!!<\/span><\/p>\n

We returned to Quito to a different apartment in the old town (Centro Historico). The 6th December is \u00a1Viva Quito! Day and it is a public holiday. After a morning of rest Abigail was ready to take to the streets. There were people everywhere, fireworks and many celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Quito<\/a>The old town of Quito was great to wander around, looking at all the beautiful old buildings, people watching, climbing clock towers and trying to find a decent coffee!!! Which we eventually did.<\/p>\n

After calling Marco, the taxi driver that returned Wills’ camera, he came and picked us up on Saturday morning to take us to the Otovalo Market. The largest textile market in South America. We had a great day. The markets were so colourful and the children, especially Wills, really got into the bargaining. Many of the older generation of stall owners are quite stooped, and Abi noticed she was taller than most grandmothers!<\/span><\/div>\n

Then it was on the La Mitad del Mundo (‘The middle of the world’). The ‘new’ middle of the world was calculated by GPS a few years back, replacing the old, more grander spot, where the French had identified it many years ago – they had got within 250m of the real line. We all had great fun watching water go straight down the plug hold, balancing an egg on a nail, and not being able to walk a straight line with you eyes closed. All apparently only possible on the equator, while only a meter away the water went clockwise down the plug hole on the Southern Hemisphere and 1m into the northern hemisphere we watched the water go anti clockwise? Wills quickly pointed out that the sink they used was turned a different way in each spot – so we are still not convinced by the demonstration…..<\/span><\/div>\n
