Cambodian side trip – Temples

Sunday 30th July
We started our day with breakfast and then our driver ‘Ra’ picked us up at 8.30 to see Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure in the world. We hired a guide which was almost essential to have any understanding of the significance of the structure. It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century.  It is surrounded by a moat 1.5km x 1.3km which can be crossed by a stone bridge, although currently being restored so a floating bride has been temporarily put in place.  Hundreds of locals have been coming out just to see the floating bridge.

Monkeys were all around as we made our way through on of the entrances into the temple.

Photos do not do it justice – such an enormous place.
